About the role
About Us
We are a staffing services technology company that helps organizations design, build, and scale digital products and engineering capabilities. Our teams deliver end-to-end software development, engineering, and design services, and we provide flexible staffing solutions to augment internal teams with specialized talent—quickly and reliably.
The Role
We are looking for a talented Project Controls Engineer to join our distributed project controls team. Whether you are a mid-career project controls professional looking to broaden your scope in construction/infrastructure cost and schedule management or a senior-level Project Controls Specialist ready to lead critical cost, schedule, and risk control decisions, we have a spot for you on our ladder. You will work across the full project lifecycle, bridging the gap between cost engineering, schedule management, risk analysis, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with client expectations.
What You’ll Do
• Cost Engineering: Develop, maintain, and update detailed project cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts; build comprehensive cost breakdown structures (CBS), work breakdown structures (WBS), and control accounts for complex engineering and construction projects.
• Schedule Management: Develop and maintain integrated project schedules using industry-standard scheduling tools (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar); build logic networks, critical path analyses, and look-ahead schedules aligned with project cost and resource plans.
• Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor cost and schedule performance against approved baselines; prepare and distribute regular project controls reports including cost reports, schedule updates, variance analyses, and executive dashboards to project teams and client stakeholders.
• Earned Value Management: Implement and manage earned value management (EVM) systems; track and report EVM metrics including SPI, CPI, BCWS, BCWP, ACWP, EAC, and VAC on large capital projects.
• Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage project cost and schedule risks; conduct quantitative risk analyses (Monte Carlo simulation) and develop risk mitigation and contingency management plans.
• Change Management: Manage the project change control process; evaluate scope changes, prepare change order estimates, assess schedule impacts, and maintain change logs and trend registers in accordance with contract requirements.
• Compliance & Standards: Implement rigorous project controls standards and procedures in accordance with project contract requirements, industry best practices, and client-specific project controls specifications (AACE International, DCMA 14-Point Assessment, ANSI/EIA-748).
• Mentorship: (For Senior+ roles) Mentor junior project controls staff and engineers; provide technical leadership on complex cost engineering, schedule development, and risk analysis challenges.
• Maintenance: Continuously update and refine project cost and schedule data to reflect current progress, scope changes, and contract modifications; manage project controls change control processes and maintain historical project records.
What We’re Looking For
• Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a closely related field.
• Experience: 3–10+ years of hands-on project controls experience in construction, engineering, infrastructure, oil & gas, or a related project-focused industry.
• Scheduling Software Proficiency: Strong experience with Primavera P6 (required); proficiency in Microsoft Project, Asta Powerproject, or other scheduling platforms is a strong plus; ability to build, maintain, and analyze complex multi-thousand activity schedules.
• Cost Engineering: Deep understanding of cost estimating, cost control, and forecasting methodologies; experience developing and managing project budgets, cost reports, and cash flow forecasts on large capital projects.
• Earned Value Management: Experience implementing and reporting earned value management (EVM) metrics including SPI, CPI, BCWS, BCWP, and ACWP; familiarity with EVMS compliance requirements (ANSI/EIA-748).
• Risk Analysis: Proficiency in quantitative cost and schedule risk analysis (Monte Carlo simulation) using tools such as Oracle Risk Analyzer, Safran Risk, or Acumen Fuse; experience developing and managing project risk registers.
• Change Control: Experience managing project change control processes including scope change evaluation, change order preparation, trend tracking, and contract compliance.
• Regulatory & Contract Compliance: Deep knowledge of project controls requirements embedded in project contracts (NEC, FIDIC, FAR/DFARS) and industry standards (AACE International Recommended Practices, DCMA 14-Point Assessment).
• Cross-Functional Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote, distributed team environment and communicate cost and schedule status clearly to project teams, clients, and executive stakeholders.
• Construction & Engineering Knowledge: Solid understanding of construction sequencing, engineering design workflows, and procurement processes to build realistic and executable project cost and schedule baselines.
Bonus Points
• Certifications: Certified Cost Professional (CCP), Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP), Earned Value Professional (EVP), or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from AACE International or PMI.
• Cost Estimating: Experience developing Class 1–5 cost estimates in accordance with AACE International estimating methodology for engineering and construction projects.
• Resource & Cost Loading: Experience resource-loading and cost-loading schedules to support integrated cost/schedule control and cash flow forecasting.
• Oil & Gas / Energy: Experience on large-scale oil & gas, LNG, power generation, or renewable energy projects including EPC and EPCM delivery models.
• Transportation & Infrastructure: Experience on complex transportation, highway, bridge, or transit projects in coordination with state DOTs or federal agencies (FHWA, FTA).
• BIM Integration: Familiarity with 4D/5D BIM, linking schedule activities and cost data to 3D models for construction sequencing visualization and quantity tracking.
• Federal Contracting: Experience working on federally funded projects with EVMS compliance requirements (ANSI/EIA-748) and IBR (Integrated Baseline Review) processes.
• Data & Reporting: Proficiency in data visualization and reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar) for cost and schedule performance dashboards and executive-level reporting.
