About the role
About Us
We are a staffing services technology company that helps organizations design, build, and scale digital products and engineering capabilities. Our teams deliver end-to-end software development, engineering, and design services, and we provide flexible staffing solutions to augment internal teams with specialized talent—quickly and reliably.
The Role
We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our distributed hardware engineering team. Whether you are a mid-career engineer looking to broaden your scope in consumer electronics/industrial automation or a senior-level Mechanical Architect ready to lead critical structural and thermal system decisions, we have a spot for you on our ladder. You will work across the full product development lifecycle, bridging the gap between mechanical design, manufacturing, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure product reliability, performance, and manufacturability.
What You’ll Do
• Design & Develop: Design, simulate, and prototype complex mechanical systems, including enclosures, structural assemblies, thermal management solutions, and precision electromechanical components using CAD tools (SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA).
• Collaborate: Work closely with Electrical Engineers, Firmware Engineers, and Product Managers in an Agile hardware environment to define mechanical requirements, form factors, tolerances, and thermal/power budgets.
• Testing & Validation: Ensure high reliability and compliance; design and execute rigorous test plans (EVT/DVT/PVT), perform physical prototype bring-up, and conduct root cause analysis on mechanical failures including fatigue, stress, and thermal performance issues.
• Architecture: Contribute to system-wide architectural decisions (material selection, actuation systems, structural design) and help evolve the mechanical stack to meet future product roadmaps.
• DFM & Supply Chain: Work with contract manufacturers (CMs) to optimize designs for manufacturing (DFM), assembly (DFA), and test (DFT); manage component selection and BOM to mitigate supply chain risks.
• Compliance & Safety: Implement rigorous design standards for thermal management, ingress protection (IP ratings), drop/vibration testing, and safety certifications (UL, CE, RoHS).
• Mentorship: (For Senior+ roles) Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on complex design challenges, tolerance stack-up analysis, and drawing/GD&T reviews.
• Maintenance: Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing mechanical platforms; manage lifecycle updates for EOL components and maintain vendor technical relationships.
• Mentorship: (For Senior+ roles) Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on complex analog/digital design challenges and layout reviews.
• Maintenance: Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing hardware platforms; manage lifecycle updates (EOL components) and vendor technical relationships.
What We’re Looking For
• Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Experience: 3–10+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience in consumer electronics, industrial automation, robotics, or a related hardware-focused industry.
• CAD Proficiency: Strong experience with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, PTC Creo, Siemens NX, or CATIA; proficiency in generating detailed engineering drawings with GD&T.
• Simulation & Analysis: Experience with FEA/FEM tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation) for structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis.
• Thermal Management: Solid understanding of heat transfer principles; experience designing passive and active cooling solutions (heat sinks, thermal interface materials, fans, vapor chambers).
• Manufacturing Processes: Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, casting, and additive manufacturing (3D printing).
• Tolerance & GD&T: Strong command of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Cross-Functional Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote, distributed team environment.
• Prototyping: Hands-on experience building and iterating on physical prototypes; comfort working with machine shops and contract manufacturers.
Bonus Points
• Certifications: Professional Engineering (PE) license or certifications in specific technologies (e.g., SolidWorks CSWA/CSWP).
• Robotics & Mechatronics: Experience designing mechanical systems for robotic platforms, actuators, and motion control systems.
• Plastics & Materials: Deep expertise in plastic part design for injection molding, material selection (polymers, composites, metals), and surface finish specifications.
• Fluid Systems: Experience designing pneumatic or hydraulic systems, fluid handling components, or HVAC-related hardware.
• Optical & Precision Mechanisms: Familiarity with precision mechanism design, optical assembly alignment, or micro-scale manufacturing.
• Compliance: Familiarity with specific regulatory standards (IEC 60601 for medical devices, ISO 26262 for automotive, MIL-SPEC for defense).
• Embedded Hardware Integration: Ability to collaborate deeply on electromechanical integration, including PCB mounting, connector routing, and cable management within enclosures.
