About the role
About Us
We are a staffing services technology company that helps organizations design, build, and scale digital products and engineering capabilities. Our teams deliver end-to-end software development, engineering, and design services, and we provide flexible staffing solutions to augment internal teams with specialized talent—quickly and reliably.
The Role
We are looking for a talented Civil Engineer to join our distributed engineering team. Whether you are a mid-career engineer looking to broaden your scope in infrastructure/land development or a senior-level Civil Design Architect ready to lead critical structural and site system decisions, we have a spot for you on our ladder. You will work across the full project lifecycle, bridging the gap between design, construction documentation, and regulatory compliance to ensure project reliability, performance, and constructability.
What You’ll Do
• Design & Develop: Design, simulate, and develop complex civil engineering systems, including site layouts, grading plans, stormwater management, roadway design, and utility infrastructure using CAD/BIM tools (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, or MicroStation).
• Collaborate: Work closely with Structural Engineers, Environmental Engineers, Architects, and Project Managers in an Agile project environment to define civil requirements, site constraints, grading strategies, and infrastructure budgets.
• Testing & Validation: Ensure high reliability and compliance; design and execute rigorous review plans, perform construction document quality checks, and conduct root cause analysis on design deficiencies or site performance issues.
• Architecture: Contribute to system-wide project decisions (site planning, drainage design, pavement structure, utility routing) and help evolve the engineering approach to meet future project and client roadmaps.
• DFM & Supply Chain: Work with contractors and construction managers to optimize designs for constructability (DFC) and value engineering; manage material selection and specifications to mitigate supply chain and cost risks.
• Compliance & Safety: Implement rigorous design standards for stormwater compliance, erosion and sediment control, ADA accessibility, and safety certifications and permits (local, state, and federal regulatory approvals).
• Mentorship: (For Senior+ roles) Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on complex site design challenges, hydrology/hydraulic analysis, and drawing/plan set reviews.
• Maintenance: Troubleshoot, assess, and rehabilitate existing civil infrastructure; manage lifecycle updates for aging assets and maintain client and agency technical relationships
What We’re Looking For
• Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
• Experience: 3–10+ years of hands-on civil engineering experience in land development, transportation, municipal infrastructure, or a related project-focused industry.
• CAD/BIM Proficiency: Strong experience with civil design tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, or OpenRoads Designer; proficiency in generating detailed construction drawings and plan sets.
• Hydrology & Hydraulics: Experience with hydrological modeling and hydraulic analysis tools (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, StormCAD, or similar) for drainage design and floodplain analysis.
• Site Design: Solid understanding of grading, earthwork calculations, utility layout, and site development principles for residential, commercial, or industrial projects.
• Transportation & Roadway: Knowledge of roadway design standards, geometric design, pavement sections, and traffic engineering fundamentals (AASHTO, MUTCD).
• Regulatory & Permitting: Deep knowledge of local, state, and federal permitting processes including NPDES, wetlands permitting, and municipal plan approvals.
• Cross-Functional Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote, distributed team environment and communicate clearly with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
• Construction Administration: Hands-on experience supporting construction administration, responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and conducting site observations.
• Prototyping: Hands-on experience building and iterating on physical prototypes; comfort working with machine shops and contract manufacturers.
Bonus Points
• Certifications: Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; additional certifications such as ENV SP (Envision Sustainability Professional) or CFM (Certified Floodplain Manager) are a plus.
• Structural Engineering: Experience with basic structural design for civil infrastructure including retaining walls, bridges, culverts, and foundations.
• GIS & Spatial Analysis: Proficiency in GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial data analysis, mapping, and site assessment.
• Environmental Engineering: Familiarity with environmental site assessments, remediation planning, and sustainable design practices (LID, green infrastructure).
• Transportation Planning: Experience with traffic impact studies, access management, and corridor planning in coordination with state DOTs or municipal agencies.
• Compliance: Familiarity with specific regulatory standards such as FEMA floodplain regulations, Clean Water Act Section 404/401, or state-specific stormwater management regulations.
• Project Management: Experience managing project schedules, budgets, and client deliverables; familiarity with project management tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar).
