The Role: We are looking for a talented CAD Draftsman to join our distributed engineering team. Whether you are a mid-career drafting professional looking to broaden your scope in construction/infrastructure documentation or a senior-level CAD Designer ready to lead critical drawing production and BIM coordination decisions, we have a spot for you on our ladder. You will work across the full project lifecycle, bridging the gap between engineering design, technical documentation, and construction delivery to ensure accurate, compliant, and construction-ready drawing sets. What You’ll Do • Drawing Production: Develop, maintain, and update detailed engineering drawings and construction documents using industry-standard CAD and BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, or Civil 3D); produce accurate plan sets, sections, details, and assembly drawings for complex engineering and construction projects. • Collaborate: Work closely with Civil Engineers, Structural Engineers, Architects, and Project Managers in an Agile project environment to translate engineering designs and calculations into clear, precise, and construction-ready technical drawings. • Quality Control: Ensure high accuracy and compliance; perform thorough drawing quality checks, maintain drawing standards and layer conventions, and conduct redline markups and revision management across all project drawing sets. • BIM Coordination: Participate in BIM coordination workflows; develop and maintain 3D models, perform clash detection reviews, and support multi-discipline coordination meetings to resolve design conflicts prior to construction. • Drawing Management: Manage drawing registers, revision histories, and document control processes; ensure all drawings are issued, tracked, and archived in accordance with project document control requirements and client standards. • Compliance & Standards: Implement rigorous drafting standards in accordance with project requirements, industry best practices, and client-specific CAD/BIM standards and execution plans (BEP). • Mentorship: (For Senior+ roles) Mentor junior drafters and CAD technicians; provide technical leadership on complex drawing production challenges, CAD standard development, and drawing review processes. • Maintenance: Continuously update and refine existing drawing sets to reflect design changes, field markups, and as-built conditions; manage drawing change control processes and maintain historical drawing records. What We’re Looking For • Education: Associate's degree or higher in Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a closely related field; Bachelor's degree preferred. • Experience: 3–10+ years of hands-on CAD drafting experience in civil engineering, structural engineering, architecture, construction, or a related project-focused industry. • CAD Software Proficiency: Strong experience with AutoCAD (required); proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or Bentley OpenRoads is a strong plus; ability to produce, manage, and coordinate complex multi-discipline drawing sets. • BIM Proficiency: Experience working within BIM environments; ability to develop and coordinate 3D models, manage model files, and participate in federated model coordination workflows. • Drawing Standards: Deep understanding of engineering and architectural drawing standards, layer conventions, line weights, annotation styles, and sheet formatting in accordance with industry standards (AIA, ASCE, ISO). • GD&T & Detailing: Strong command of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles and technical detailing for structural, mechanical, and civil engineering applications. • Document Control: Experience managing drawing registers, revision control, and document transmittals in accordance with project document control procedures and client requirements. • Cross-Functional Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote, distributed team environment and communicate drawing status and design issues clearly to engineers, architects, and project managers. • Construction Knowledge: Solid understanding of construction sequencing, building systems, and engineering design workflows to produce accurate and buildable construction documents. Bonus Points • Certifications: Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) in AutoCAD or Revit; IPC CID certification or equivalent drafting/design certification is a strong plus. • Civil 3D: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for corridor modeling, grading design, surface analysis, and utility network drafting. • 3D Modeling: Experience with advanced 3D modeling tools such as Rhino, SketchUp, Navisworks, or Bentley OpenBuildings for design visualization and clash detection. • Structural Detailing: Experience producing detailed structural steel and reinforced concrete drawings including connection details, rebar schedules, and erection plans. • MEP Drafting: Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) drafting and coordination within a BIM environment. • GIS Integration: Familiarity with GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial data integration and mapping within civil engineering drawing sets. • Federal & Municipal Projects: Experience producing drawing sets for federally funded projects or large municipal capital improvement programs (CIP) with strict drawing standard requirements. • Data & Reporting: Proficiency in data visualization and reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar) for drawing production metrics and project documentation dashboards. Compensation & Benefits We believe in paying top-of-market rates for top-tier talent. The base salary range for this role is $120,000 to $155,000 + commission, with exact placement determined by your skills, years of experience, and interview performance.
